OpenAI Updates GPT-5.2 and Adjusts Features for ChatGPT Go Users

OpenAI’s latest GPT-5.2 update changes how reasoning features work across free and ChatGPT Go plans, shifting from automatic reasoning to manual controls and limiting Go users to the lighter Thinking Mini model.
OpenAI has introduced significant adjustments alongside the release of GPT-5.2, altering how users across different subscription tiers access advanced reasoning features. The update removes the previous automatic reasoning mode for both free users and ChatGPT Go subscribers, requiring manual activation when deeper analysis is needed.
According to OpenAI’s official documentation, the ChatGPT Go plan now officially supports GPT-5 Thinking Mini, a lighter version of the company’s enhanced reasoning model. Prior to GPT-5.2, many Go users reported seeing the full Thinking mode appearing automatically in complex queries, a behavior that no longer occurs under the updated model routing.
The company states that GPT-5.2 will continue to power Go, but heavy-duty reasoning is reserved for higher subscription tiers such as Plus and Pro. Go subscribers can still encourage deeper responses by regenerating answers and selecting longer thinking options, but the system will default to the Thinking Mini model.
These changes reflect OpenAI’s broader shift toward clearer model boundaries across subscription levels, ensuring that premium reasoning capabilities remain exclusive to the higher-tier offerings while still providing Go users with fast and capable performance through GPT-5.2 Instant and Thinking Mini.
