The device aims to integrate seamlessly into daily life, offering a personalized and proactive artificial intelligence experience. It will be powered by an advanced version of ChatGPT Voice Mode, known as GPT-Live, enabling more natural and humanlike conversations. Apple alleges that OpenAI's "nascent hardware business now rests on the shakiest of foundations, rotten to its core by its illegal reliance on misappropriated trade secrets". While OpenAI believes its product "doesn't violate any trade secrets" and is "unlikely" to infringe on Apple's intellectual property, the lawsuit could potentially impact the device's timeline.

Longer-term plans are rumored to include a "mobile AI device capable of replacing the smartphone," as well as explorations into wearable products like pendants and home robotics.
