Brazil Unveils First Global Roadmap to Guide Transition Away From Fossil Fuels
The Brazilian presidency of COP30 has published the first international roadmap designed to guide countries away from fossil fuels, framing energy decarbonization as an urgent yet viable economic imperative. Drawing on submissions from more than one hundred nations, the voluntary framework seeks to pivot United Nations climate diplomacy from deadlocked debates toward technical implementation ahead of the COP31 summit. While civil society and international observers welcomed the initiative, critics warned that the absence of mandatory dates and binding supply limits leaves critical gaps in the fight against climate overshoot.
